Internal Committee or Local Committee: which one do you need?
27 Oct 2026 · 3 min read
The POSH Act requires every employer with 10 or more employees at a workplace to set up an Internal Committee (Section 4). It is headed by a senior woman employee and includes employee members and an external member with relevant experience.
Where a workplace has fewer than 10 employees, or where the complaint is against the employer, the complaint goes to the Local Committee set up at district level (Section 6).
Check the composition regularly. When members leave or change roles, the committee must be reconstituted so that it stays valid.
We offer IC guidance covering roles, inquiry procedure and documentation.
